On Friday November 17, 2023, the GAPs project team at the Centre of Migration Research University of Warsaw (CMR UW) presented their activities and preliminary national results to Prof. Lorenzo Rinelli from Temple University Rome Campus and his students, from the USA, as part of an academic course on international migration. During the lecture, the Polish team (consisting of Mateusz Krępa, Marta Pachocka, Tomasz Sieniow, Anna Trylińska) presented the assumptions and goals of the project and discussed the research conducted since March 2023 (namely the analysis of return law, infrastructure and policies). The presentation was followed by a lively discussion on the practicalities of the migration situation in Poland and related state policy and practices in this area, including on topics such as return, eastern Polish-Belarusian border, asylum procedures, as well as conditions of temporary protection granted to persons fleeing from Ukraine and migrant integration. Visa and readmission issues were also discussed.
