Participation of GAPs partner Dr. Rasha Istaiteyeh from The Hashemite University in the International Conference on Social Work and Social Research in Azerbaijan
Dr. Rasha Istaiteyeh participated in the International Conference on Social Work and Social Research, Financial Capability, and Asset Building for All, held on November 24-25 2023, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The conference was organized by Washington University in St. Louis (USA), Sakarya University (Türkiye), and the Center for Social Research (Azerbaijan University).
Dr. Istaiteyeh shared her paper on “Financial Capability and Asset Building (FCAB) Programs on Enhancing Economic Resilience and Empowerment among Syrian Refugees in Jordan.”
She argued that Jordan's financial infrastructure, designed to enhance the financial inclusion of refugees, should focus on a customized approach rather than solely developing FCAB materials and programs for Syrian refugees. This is to create FCAB materials and initiatives that:
Are tailored to accommodate the unique situations, abilities, and goals of each individual.
Are culturally attuned and linguistically approachable, making it straightforward for refugees to interact with.
Are sustainable and empower refugees to independently handle their finances and assets in the long-run.
In the end, Dr. Istaiteyeh touched on the issue of how enhanced financial inclusion could influence Syrian refugees’ decision to return to Syria or remain in Jordan.
