Insights from the SRII Autumn Research Collegium

Presentation screen relating to the GAPs Project.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul (SRII) hosted its annual Autumn Research Collegium at the University of Gothenburg. The event gathered distinguished researchers and members of the academic community to explore contemporary research and cultural perspectives.

Ela Gökalp Aras, Senior Researcher at the SRII and Principal Investigator of the GAPs Project, presented the project and its preliminary findings from Turkey. Her presentation examined the complexities of return migration and the governance frameworks shaping these processes. By focusing on decentering the study of returns, the project challenges conventional approaches, contributing to nuanced discussions on migration policy and shedding light on the often-overlooked dimensions of migrant experiences.
