This GAPs newsitem aims to present insights from the National Workshop on the reintegration of Moroccans returning home which took place on December 5, 2023 and was attended by GAPs project partner International Migration Association (AMI). This event constituted a significant step towards fostering collaboration and support. Organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of the "Protection, Return, and Reintegration for Migrants in North Africa" program, supported by the European Union, the event aimed to address key challenges and to pave the way for sustainable solutions.
Objective: Promoting Awareness and Collaboration
The primary goal of the program is to raise awareness, initiate dialogue, and encourage collaboration between IOM and both governmental and non-governmental entities in Morocco. By doing so, the program strives to develop effective strategies supporting the vulnerable population of returning Moroccans, ensuring their economic, social, and psychosocial reintegration aligns with sustainability goals.
Sharing Best Practices for Impactful Reintegration
Beyond discussions, the Workshop facilitated the sharing of best practices within voluntary return programs. It identified challenges faced by returning Moroccans in vulnerable situations, including obstacles to their social, economic, and psychosocial reintegration. The aim was to develop integrated approaches that offer meaningful support to individuals in vulnerable conditions.
An active participant in this important workshop was Mr. Bachir Hamdouch, president of the Association Migration International (AMI), whose presence underscored a commitment to positive change. The event provided a platform to showcase the efforts of IOM and its partners in assisting the reintegration of returning Moroccans.
Conclusion: Towards Comprehensive Reintegration
As the workshop concluded, a path forward emerged, emphasizing comprehensive and sustainable reintegration. The collaborative efforts between IOM and stakeholders set the stage for effective strategies. The workshop served not only as an event but as a milestone in a larger narrative of empowerment, resilience, and hope for returning Moroccans.
